About the academy
TAAL means rhythm, and rhythm is the heart of everything we teach.
TAAL The Tabla Academy was founded to bring authentic tabla training to families in West Auckland. Students learn the traditional way, starting with clear bols, correct hand position and a steady sense of laya, then moving into kaydas, relas, tukdas and accompaniment.
Classes are deliberately small so that every student receives feedback in each session. Progress is tracked across three levels, and each level closes with an in-house assessment so students and parents can see real improvement rather than guesswork.
Beyond the classroom, students perform at academy events and accompany vocalists and instrumentalists in the wider Auckland music community. That stage experience is what turns practice into confidence.
